About Unlock PDF
Remove password restrictions from your PDF files so they can be opened freely without entering a password each time. You must provide the current password — CocoConvert cannot and does not bypass encryption. This is a legitimate convenience tool for documents you own.
Common use cases include removing passwords from old documents where you want easier access, preparing PDFs for archival storage, or creating unlocked copies for internal distribution after approvals are complete.
The decryption is handled by qpdf on secure servers. Your password is processed in memory only and never logged or stored. The resulting unlocked PDF retains all content, formatting, and metadata from the original.
Files are encrypted in transit and permanently deleted from our servers within 24 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I unlock a PDF without knowing the password?
No. CocoConvert requires the current password to decrypt the document. We do not bypass or crack PDF encryption — this would be both illegal and unethical.
Is the PDF content changed after unlocking?
No. The content, formatting, fonts, images, and metadata remain identical. Only the password requirement is removed.
Is my password stored or logged?
Absolutely not. Your password is processed in server memory only and never written to disk, logged, or transmitted anywhere.
