How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Android
Why You Have HEIC Files on Android
Most HEIC files on Android come from iPhones — either transferred via messaging, AirDrop alternatives, or cloud storage. Some newer Samsung and Google Pixel phones also support HEIC capture (Samsung calls it 'High efficiency pictures' in camera settings). If someone sent you iPhone photos or you switched from iPhone to Android, you likely have HEIC files.
Method 1: Google Photos (Automatic)
Google Photos can open HEIC files on most modern Android phones. If you just need to view them, they should work in Google Photos. To convert: open the HEIC photo in Google Photos, tap Share → Send with Gmail (to yourself), and the attachment will be JPG. Or tap the three-dot menu → Save to device, which may save as JPG depending on your Android version.
Method 2: Online Converter
Open Chrome on your Android phone and go to CocoConvert. Upload the HEIC file, select JPG as the output format, and download. This works on any Android phone regardless of version and doesn't require installing any app. For multiple files, you can batch convert them in one go.
Method 3: Samsung Gallery
On Samsung phones, the Gallery app can open HEIC files. To convert: open the photo in Gallery, tap the three-dot menu → Save as → JPG. If this option isn't visible, your Samsung phone may not support HEIC viewing, which usually means you're on an older device — use the online converter method instead.
Preventing HEIC on Android
If your Android phone is shooting in HEIC: Samsung: Camera → Settings → turn off 'High efficiency pictures.' Pixel: Camera → Settings → Photo resolution → choose a non-HEIF option. Other brands: look for 'HEIF,' 'HEIC,' or 'High efficiency' in camera settings and disable it.
